Autologous dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells for inferior third molar post-extraction socket healing : a split-mouth randomised clinical trial
2018
Background Since the discovery of adult mesenchymal stem cells extensive research has been conducted to determine their mechanisms of differentiation and effectiveness in cell therapy and regenerative medicine. Material and Methods To assess the efficacy of autologous dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells delivered in a collagen matrix for post-extraction socket healing, a single-centre, double-blind, randomised, split-mouth, controlled clinical trial was performed. Both impacted mandibular third molars were extracted from 32 patients. Dental pulp was collected and dissociated; the resulting cell suspension, obtained by centrifugation, was incorporated into a resorbable collagen matrix and imp…
Effectiveness of flossing loops in the control of the gingival health
2017
Reference Number: 53858 Background: One of the key factor in the good condition of periodontal tissues is their daily hygiene. Oral hygiene techniques such brushing and a good interdental hygiene by correct flossing are very important. The aim of this study is to compare the use of dental floss in a loop vs traditional floss in the control of Loe-Silness Gingival In- dex (IG), Turesky ́s Plaque Index (IPT), Gingival Bleeding Index (IS) and the values of interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 8 (IL-8). Material and Methods: A comparative study of 40 patients in which each patient was his own control, using during 45 days each one of the devices (new loop floss and conventional floss) of interd…
Effect of incision design on interproximal bone loss of teeth adjacent to single implants. A randomized controlled clinical trial comparing intrasulc…
2018
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of incision design in implant surgery on interproximal bone loss of posterior teeth adjacent to interdental single implants, comparing intrasulcular and paramarginal incision. A further aim was to assess the influence of the incision technique on peri-implant bone remodeling. MATERIALS AND METHODS A controlled randomized clinical trial was carried out in a University Clinic. All the patients received an interdental posterior single implant. The incision type was randomly divided into two groups: (a) intrasulcular or (b) paramarginal. Standardized periapical digital radiographs were made with the parallel technique and a silicone index individualized in each pa…
Narrow-diameter implants: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
2018
OBJECTIVES Narrow-diameter implants (NDI) are claimed to be a reasonable alternative to bone augmentation procedures. The aim of this comprehensive literature review was to conduct a meta-analysis comparing the implant survival of NDI and standard diameter implants (SDI) and to provide recommendations and guidelines for application of NDI. MATERIAL AND METHODS An extensive systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library databases. NDI were classified into Category 1 (implant diameter <3.0 mm, "mini-implants"), Category 2 (implant diameter 3-3.25 mm) and Category 3 (implant diameters 3.3-3.5 mm). Clinical studies at all levels of evidence with at lea…
Active tactile sensibility of three-unit implant-supported FPDs versus natural dentition
2019
Background Splinting of the implants might improve the active tactile sensibility (ATS) of the pontic area due to cumulative effect of Osseo perception of two retainers; on the other hand, due to the lack of any supporting implant in the axis of occlusal force for the pontic area, ATS might be lower for this portion of FPDs. we evaluated the active tactile sensibility of natural teeth and three-unit implant-supported FPDs. Material and methods The ATS of posterior 3-unit implant-supported FPD and contralateral teeth was measured in 50 patients, in a random order blinded to patients and assessor, carried out at two sessions. Based on the experimental range of 0 to 70 um, the sigmoid shape of…
Correcting loss of a papilla following orthodontic space opening (Atherton's patch) through implant supported rehabilitation. A case report
2014
The objective of this case report is to describe a surgical and prosthetic technique to create a lost papilla following orthodontic space opening (Atherton´s patch) through implant supported rehabilitation. A switching platform implant was used to replace a left maxillary canine in a unitary interdental edentulous ridge with Atherton´s patch in the distal area of the upper lateral left incisor. The radiographic study revealed correct level of the interproximal bone of the adjacent teeth. A mucoperiosteal flap with crest incision and sulcular extension to the adjacent teeth was made. Special attention was paid to correct position of the implant and the distance (≥ 1.5 mm) between the platfor…
